Head Start

Head Start at Timber Lane consists of two 3-5 year old classrooms. Head Start is a national child development program that serves income eligible families with children birth through five years of age and expectant parents. Families participating in Head Start receive assistance with:

  • Child education and development.
  • Social services.
  • Health services (medical, dental, nutrition, mental health, and prenatal care).
  • Parent education.
  • Family literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL).

The program focuses on ensuring that all children are adequately prepared for Kindergarten, through the use of the High/Scope Preschool Curriculum. The High/Scope Preschool Curriculum is based on the child development ideas of Jean Piaget, and views children as active learners, who learn best from activities that interest them and that they themselves plan, carry out, and reflect upon. The children are encouraged to engage in a variety of key experiences that help them to make choices, solve problems, and actively contribute to their own social and academic development. Call the office at 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish), and a staff member will ask you questions that will screen you for eligibility to apply.
