3rd Grade Newsletter
Hi Families! We are excited to share all the different things students are learning about. We are finalizing a field trip to the National Zoo for early May. More information will be shared after Spring Break! Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Language Arts
What We Learned This Past Month:
Students completed a Biography and Realistic Fiction units. In both of these units students listened to and read different books. They also worked on their own writing.
What We Will Be Learning Next Month:
Students are currently working on the Poetry unit. After that they will begin a unit titled, Testing As a Genre that will help them comprehend texts of different formats.
Math
What We Learned This Past Month:
Third graders completed their third unit on Multiplication and Division. They worked on their mathematical reasoning and flexible thinking.
What We Will Be Learning Next Month:
Third graders will be starting their second unit on fractions. Students will be working on the addition and subtraction of fractions.
Science
What We Will Be Learning Next Month:
We will begin our next science unit, Simple Machines in the Beginning of 4th quarter. Students will learn about simple machines and demonstrate an understanding of engineering practices. Students will also learn that direction and size of force affects motion of an object.
Social Studies
What We Learned This Past Month:
Students have learned all about Ancient Greece!
What We Will Be Learning Next Month:
Students will learn about Ancient Rome and will be able to explain how contributions of Ancient Rome (architecture, inventions, the calendar and written language) continue to influence our world today.
