What We Learned This Past Month:

Reading

• We continued to practice monitoring, self-correcting and confirming using multiple sources of information while reading 
• We used word parts to solve new words
• We noticed punctuation and dialogue to reflect meaning through phrasing

Writing

• We write “All About” and “How To” books

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

Reading

• We will learn how to ask and answer questions about what is read 
• We will practice identifying the theme of a poem 
• We will read and reread families stories and poems with fluency, accuracy and meaningful expression

Writing

• We will learn about poetry and practice responding to a variety of poems through movement, performance or participation
• We will learn how to use tools (rhythm, repetition, line-breaks) to express feelings and experiences through poetry

 

Math

What We Learned This Past Month:

• We learned about geometric shapes in the environment.
• We identified circles, triangles, squares and rectangles.
• We sorted shapes by their attributes/characteristics such as vertices, sides, and angles.
• We compared and contrasted geometric shapes.
• We identified repeating and growing patterns.
• We extended repeating and growing patterns.
• We created our own repeating and growing patterns.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

• We will learn to use patterns to count forward up to 110 and backward from 30, starting at any number.
• We will learn to put numbers in order counting forwards and backwards.
• We will learn to put objects into equal groups and count by 10s, 5s, and 2s.
• We will learn to write the numbers that count by 10s, 5s, and 2s.
• We will learn to compare numbers using the words “greater than” and “less than.”

 

Science

What We Learned This Past Month:

• We learned about fall changes and the effects it has on plants, animals and people
• We learned how forces between objects affect motion
• We learned how motion and sound are related

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

• We will learn about winter changes and the effects it has on plants, animals and people

 

Social Studies

What We Learned This Past Month:

• We wrote letters to thank veterans for their service
• We learned how to apply the traits of a good citizen by valuing honesty and truthfulness in ourselves and others
• We will learn about the importance of voting and participating in classroom decision making
