Important Dates & Reminders

  • February 8th: Family Market
  • February 8th: Report Cards Go Home
  • February 13: 100th Day of School (more information to come!)
  • February 20: President’s Day- No school
  • Make sure your child comes to school with one quick and healthy snack and water bottle every day.
  • Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.

Attendance is important for your Kindergartener’s success this school year! If your child will be absent for any reason please contact your child’s teacher and submit an attendance form: https://timberlanees.fcps.edu/about/attendance-for. In addition to reporting a daily absence, you can now report a late arrival or an early dismissal for your student. 

Language Arts

What We Learned This Past Month:

Reading: 

  • We learned about rhyming patterns in poems, songs and books.
  • We learned to identify the topic of a nonfiction text.
  • We sorted nonfiction and fiction texts. 

Writing: 

  • Students taught their readers about a topic in their nonfiction book

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

Reading

  • We will interact with texts and empathize with the characters and their struggles. 
  • We will  follow characters and develop ideas about how and why their feelings change. 
  • We will listen to others and share our ideas.

Writing:  

  • We will use strategies to generate ideas independently. 
  • We will write a story (single event) across pages in both pictures and words. 
  • We will share and listen to each other’s personal stories.

Math

What We Learned This Past Month:

  • We learned how to compose and decompose to 5. 
  • Students continued learning forward and backward number sequences
  • Students worked on identifying numbers
  • Students counted collections and recorded their thinking

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • Students will count forward by one from 0 to 100. 
  • We will identify the number after, without counting, when given any number from 0 to 100 and identify the number before, without counting when given any number 1 to 10
  • We will learn to count by 10s.
  • We will begin counting collections.

Science & Social Studies (Content)

What We Learned This Past Month:

  • We learned how  to identify living and nonliving things. 
  • We learned about seasonal patterns and weather changes.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • We will learn that water is important in our daily lives and has many different uses. 
  • We will learn that plants and animals have basic needs. 
  • We will learn that change occurs over time.

Concept

What We Learned This Past Month - Patterns:

  • We will learn to identify living and nonliving things. 
  • We will learn about seasonal patterns and weather changes.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month - Change:

  • We will learn how characters feelings change throughout a story
  • We will investigate and experiment how change happens over time
