Hello families! Welcome to the third grade newsletter for the month of January.

Important Dates & Reminders

  • Please make sure your child reads for 20 minutes every night 
  • Masks tend to break easily, please make sure your child has an extra one in their backpack

Language Arts

What We Learned This Past Month:

This month students having been engaged in our Critical Literacy Unit. Third graders are learning to critically analyze traditional and fractured tales to determine whose perspectives the author chooses to represent and whose perspectives are left out. They are doing this by looking at fairy tales and fractured fairy tales.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

Third graders will be learning about nonfiction once again. This time they will be researching a person they are interested in learning about. They will have the opportunity to share their research with others.

 

Math

What We Learned This Past Month:

Students have been learning on their multiplication and division skills again. Through a variety of differentiated instruction third graders are working on learning and sharing different strategies to solve problems. At this point students are working with equations up to 10 x 10.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

Next, third graders will begin the second unit of addition and subtraction. We will begin the unit with a review of place value concepts. In this unit students will work on adding and subtracting whole numbers with a sum or difference up to 9,999. Third graders will also be working on the skill of rounding and estimating.

 

Science

What We Learned This Past Month:

We just finished up our water cycle unit.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

We will be moving on to a new Social Studies unit.

 

Social Studies

What We Learned This Past Month:

We were completing a science unit.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

Students will begin learning all about Ancient Egypt.
