Language Arts

Students are finishing their Persuasive Units. Students chose a belief or a topic they are passionate about. They collected research and evidence to support their opinion. They created a thesis, and supported this with evidence. Students then presented these to the class.

Some students worked towards a debate in class. They collected evidence to support their side of the argument as well as prepared a rebuttal.

Math

Students applied their knowledge of fractions, decimals, and percents to the interpretation of circle graphs. Students also worked with measures of center to determine how changes in the data affect the mean, median, and mode.

The students are also applying their understanding of decimals and percentages to create a stock portfolio to find percent change over time as well as measures of center (Mean and Median).

Advanced Math

Students explored the volume and surface area of rectangular prisms and cylinders through the deconstruction and reconstruction of those figures. Students applied their understanding of how the formulas are developed to generalize the relationship between the dimensions of a rectangular prism or cylinder and the surface area or volume of that figure.

Students applied their understanding of data distribution to investigate claims of climate change.

The students are also applying their understanding of decimals and percentages to create a stock portfolio to find percent change over time as well as measures of center (Mean and Median).

Science

Students learned about Energy and its uses. Students investigated renewable and nonrenewable resources and then completed a Project-Based Learning inquiry asking them to create a proposal advocating for a new energy source to be added to our community prioritizing clean energy and increased efficiency.

Social Studies

Students are engaging in group projects to learn about many aspects of and leading to the Civil War. Students learned about the Louisiana Purchase, The Missouri Compromise, various abolitionists, the North v The South, the secession, and the outcome of the war.
