Important Dates & Reminders

  • Wednesday, March 2 - Read Across America Day 
  • Thursday, March 3 - Early Release for Students 
  • Friday, March 4 - Teacher Work Day, No School
  • Thursday, March 31 - Early Release & Last Day of the Third Quarter
  • Friday, April 1 - Friday, April 8 - No School, Spring Break (We return to school on Monday, April 11)
  • Make sure your child comes to school with a snack, water bottle, and an extra mask every day. 
  • Contact the attendance office if there is a change to your child’s schedule.

Language Arts

What We Learned This Past Month:

  • We explored Realistic Fiction stories. After learning about what makes a realistic fiction story, we began to write our own pieces.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • We will begin our new unit, Critical Literacy, during reading. Students will get a chance to determine the theme in different texts. 
  • During writing, students will be working on persuasive letters.

 

Math

What We Learned This Past Month:

  • We worked on reading and writing fractions such as ½, ¼, ⅓, ⅙, & ⅛.  We also learned about equal parts and equivalent fractions.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • We will start our third addition and subtraction unit, which focuses on double digit numbers.  Students will learn to estimate and determine sums and differences using the most efficient strategy.  We will solve single-step and two-step problems.  Students will demonstrate their understanding of equality through the equal sign and the not equal sign. 

 

Science

What We Learned This Past Month:

We completed our Weather Unit and became meteorologists by learning how to observe, measure, and track changes in weather. We also learned to identify different types of storms.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

Students will learn about Matter and Forces during our upcoming science unit.

 

Social Studies

What We Learned This Past Month: 

  • We learned about the contributions of some European explorers & important Americans.
  • We started to investigate some basic economic ideas in our world today.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month:

  • We will continue to investigate some basic economic ideas in our world today.
  • We will also complete our Family Life Education unit at the end of the month.  Please reach out to your classroom teacher if you have any questions.
