Language Arts

What We Learned This Past Month:

Third graders learned about nonfiction once again. This time they are researching a person they are interested in learning about. They will have the opportunity to share their research with others.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month:

In our next reading unit, we will be reading and writing Poetry.  Students will learn what makes a poem, learn to understand the meaning of a poem and understand that poets use tools to help deliver a message to readers.

Students will also write their own poetry.

Math

What We Learned This Past Month:

We will begin our Unit on Measurement.  Students will expand their knowledge of measuring length in customary and metric units. They will estimate and measure lengths and develop understandings of perimeter and area. Students will also estimate and measure liquid volume using customary and metric units.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month:

We will be moving into Addition and Subtraction part 3.  Students will be working toward mastery of fact fluency in 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10 facts. Students extend their thinking as they begin to solve larger multiplication problems set within real world contexts. They also apply properties of multiplication and represent equivalent and nonequivalent number sentences.
