Important Dates & Reminders

  • March 2: Early Release
  • March 3: No school for students
  • March 8: Family Market
  • March 8: Interim reports in Wednesday folders
  • Make sure your child comes to school with one quick and healthy snack and water bottle every day.
  • Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.

Classrooms are welcoming guest readers! Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you or another family member would like to be a guest reader!

Attendance is important for your Kindergartener’s success this school year! If your child will be absent for any reason please contact your child’s teacher and submit an attendance form: https://timberlanees.fcps.edu/about/attendance-for. In addition to reporting a daily absence, you can now report a late arrival or an early dismissal for your student. 

Language Arts

What We Learned This Past Month

Reading: 

  • Students learned to interact with texts and empathize with the characters and their struggles. 
  • Students learned to  follow characters and develop ideas about how and why their feelings change. 
  • Students  listened to others and shared our ideas.

Writing: 

  • Students used strategies to generate ideas independently. 
  • Students learned to write a story (single event) across pages in both pictures and words. 
  • Students shared their stories and listened to others.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

Reading - Poetry

  • Students will participate in choral and echo speaking and recitation of short poems, rhymes, songs, and stories with repeated patterns and refrains.
  • Students will use drama to retell familiar stories, rhymes, amd poems
  • Students will demonstrate comprehension of text through drawings or a written response

Writing - Poetry

  • Students will recognize that poetry is a different way to communicate thoughts and ideas. 
  • Students will practice creating their own poems
  • Students will add titles to their poems

Math

What We Learned This Past Month:

  • Students practiced counting forward by one from 0 to 100
  • Students worked on identifying the number after a give number between 0 and 100
  • Students began to learn how to count by 10s
  • Students counted collections and recorded their thinking 
  • Students learned how to identify and describe 2-dimensional shapes

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • Students will describe the location of objects and identify shapes regardless of their positions and orientations in space
  • Students will investigate and describe part-whole relationships for numbers up to 10.
  • Students will model and solve single-step story and picture problems with sums to 10 and differences within 10, using math tools.

Science & Social Studies (Content)

What We Learned This Past Month:

  • We learned how change occurs over-time
  • We learned that some things change, while others stay the same

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • We will learn that water is important in our daily lives and has many different uses. 
  • We will learn that weather changes over-time

Concept

What We Learned This Past Month - Change:

  • We learned how we have changed over-time by looking at baby pictures
  • We learned about the past, present and future
  • We learned about how characters feelings change throughout a story

What We Will Be Learning Next Month - Change:

  • We will learn about how our communities change over-time 
  • We will identify how everyday items have changed over time
  • We will investigate and experiment how change happens over time
