Timber Lane’s Primary Literacy night on Thursday, May 19th 5:30-7:00pm (enter through Door 5).  Primary Literacy night is intended for Pre-K -3rd grade students, but older students are welcome too! Pizza will be served.  We hope to see you there!

Language Arts

What We Learned This Past Month:

Students learned about Poetry.  Students explored different types of poetry and learned what to look for to identify a poem and understand the author’s message. 

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

We have begun ourTesting As a Genre that will help them comprehend texts of different formats, as well as answer questions that accompany a text.  After this unit, we will begin our exciting Book Club Unit!

 

Math

What We Learned This Past Month:

Third graders completed their second unit on fractions. Students worked on the addition and subtraction of fractions, as well as moving fractions from improper to mixed numbers!

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

We have just begun our unit on Probability, Time and temperature.  Students will be exploring the likelihood of events occuring and learning to tell time to the minute, as well as reading a thermometer.

 

Science

What We Learned This Past Month: 

We just began our unit about simple machines.  Students will demonstrate an understanding of engineering practices. Students will also learn that direction and size of force affects motion of an object

 

Social Studies

What We Learned This Past Month:

Students learned about Ancient Rome and are able to explain how contributions of Ancient Rome (architecture, inventions, the calendar and written language) continue to influence our world today.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

For our last Social Studies unit, we will learn about Ancient Mali.  Students will describe oral tradition (storytelling), government (kings), and economic development (trade) of the early West African Empire of Mali.
