Important Dates & Reminders

  • November 4th - 1st Grade Field Trip to Cox Farms 
  • November 8th - Holiday - Election Day 
  • November 11th - Student Holiday - School Planning Day 
  • November 23rd - 25th - Holiday - Thanksgiving

Make sure your child comes to school with one easy and healthy snack and water bottle every day.

Contact the attendance office if there is a change to your child’s schedule, including an absence.

Language Arts

What We Learned This Past Month:

  • We will learn about characters’ traits and feelings by noticing what they say and do
  • We will write personal narratives. These are stories about small moments that gave us big feelings

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • We will learn about inflectional endings (-s, -es, -ed)
  • We will learn about open and closed syllables 
    • When a syllable ends with a consonant, the vowel sound is usually short
    • When a syllable ends with a vowel, the vowel sound is usually long
    • Every syllable has one vowel sound
  • We will write nonfiction books, by researching a specific topic, gathering and synthesizing data, and turning our findings into a book
  • We will demonstrate our learning by sharing our nonfiction books with each other

Math

What We Learned This Past Month

  • We will began the first unit of addition and subtraction. Students learned: 
    • How to make and demonstrate numbers many different ways 
    • How to say and show two values or group are equal 
    • How to create and solving single step addition and subtraction problems within 10

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • We will learn how to identify, trace, describe, and sort plane geometric figures (triangles, squares, rectangles, and circles) according to number of sides, vertices, and angles
  • We will learn how to identify and describe representations of circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles in different environments, regardless of orientation, and explain reasoning
  • We will sort and classify concrete objects according to one or two attributes 
  • We will learn how to identify, describe, extend, create and transfer growing and repeating patterns (geometric patterns)

Science

What We Learned Last Month:

  • Observed plants and animals 
  • How to be healthy and take care of our bodies

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • We will learn about fall changes and the response plants and animals have to these seasonal and weather changes 
  • We will begin studying motion

Social Studies

What We Learned This Past Month:

  • We learned about Patriotic Symbols of the US 
  • We learned about the state of Virginia and practicing how to locate it on a map 
  • We learned about life in Virginia today, and how it differs from the past

What We Will Be Learning Next Month:

  • We will earn about government and leadership
