Important Dates & Reminders

  • September 26th - No School for Students - Rosh Hashanah
  • October 5th - No School - Yom Kippur
  • October 10th - No School for Students - Indigenous Peoples’ Day
  • October 24th - No School - Diwali
  • October 28th - 2hr Early Release - End of Quarter
  • October 31st - No School for Students - Teacher Work Day
  • November 4th - 1st Grade Field Trip to Cox Farms
  • Sign up for a parent teacher conference if you have not already done so.
  • Make sure your child comes to school with one easy and healthy snack and water bottle every day.
  • Contact the attendance office if there is a change to your child’s schedule, including an absence.

Language Arts

What We Learned This Past Month:

Reading

  • Building our stamina and monitoring our reading 
  • Reading and having conversations with a partner
  • Listening to a book and discussing it with our classmates
  • Brainstorming an idea, drawing a picture and matching our words to the picture

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • We will learn about characters’ traits and feelings by noticing what they say and do
  • We will write personal narratives. These are stories about small moments that gave us big feelings

Math

What We Learned This Past Month:

  • Counting forward and backward to 20 
  • Counting by tens and fives
  • Learning math games to play independent during math centers

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • We will begin the first unit of addition and subtraction. Students will learn: 
    • How to make and demonstrate numbers many different ways 
    • How to say and show two values or group are equal 
    • Creating and solving single step addition and subtraction problems within 10

Science

What We Will Be Learning Next Month:

  • Learning about how to be a scientist 
  • Learning how to plant a class garden

What We Will Be Learning Next Month: 

  • Observing plants and animals 
  • How to be healthy and take care of our bodies

Social Studies

What We Learned This Past Month:

  • We focused on building our classroom community and establishing routines

What We Will Be Learning Next Month:

  • We will learn about Patriotic Symbols of the US 
  • We will learn about the state of Virginia and practicing how to locate it on a map 
  • We will learn about life in Virginia today, and how it differs from the past
