Important Dates & Reminders

Language Arts

What We Learned This Past Month

Reading: 

  • We worked on following reading workshop routines. 
  • We worked on retelling stories using the characters, settings, and events in the correct sequence from beginning to end.
  • We learned about short vowel sounds (a,e,i,o,u) in CVC words. Ex: cat, dog, pig, hug, pen. 
  • We learned about digraphs (sh, ch, th). 

Writing: 

  • We worked on following writing workshop routines. 
  • We started working on personal narratives.
  • We worked on stretching out words to help us write. 
  • We worked on using finger space, punctuation and capital letters to start a sentence.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month

Reading

  • We will learn s,l and r blends and inflectional endings (ing, ed) 
  • We will continue to identify and describe characters, settings, and important events in a story using details.
  • We will continue to retell stories using the characters, settings, and events in the correct sequence from beginning to end. 
  • We will start reading non fiction stories. 

Writing:  

  • We will begin writing non fiction stories.
  • We will continue practicing stretching out words to help us write. 
  • We will continue working on using finger space, punctuation and capital letters to start a sentence.

Math

What We Learned This Past Month

  • We continued to work on Math Workshop routines.
  • We shared our thinking as mathematicians.
  • We practiced forwards and backwards counting to 100
  • We practiced reading and writing our numbers. 
  • We started to learn about data and how to make and read different types of graphs.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month

  • We will be learning how to tell time to the hour on a digital and analog clock. 
  • We will learn about length and width. 
  • We will start addition and subtraction within 10.

Content (science/social studies)

What We Learned This Past Month

  • We learned about being a Virginian, Government and Leadership.
  • We began to learn how to be a scientist. 
  • We used science journals to make observations.

What We Will Be Learning Next Month

  • We will learn about fall seasonal changes. 
  • We will learn about weather, plants, animals and trees.

  • We talked about our class community and school community. 
  • We talked about community rules.
