Important Reminders

  • All parents should register their information on talking points. Please email your child’s teacher for the code. 
  • Students should always bring a water bottle, snack, and extra masks to school each day.

Reading & Writing

We have been building our classroom communities as readers and writers by:

  • Reflecting on reading and writing interests
  • Creating our own writing vision boards
  • Sharing our reading/writing interests & passions
  • Exploring new interests in both reading & writing

Next Up in Reading: Following the journey of characters to develop new understandings about the human experience and considering multiple points of view within a text.


Next up in Writing: Using a combination of narrative and expository writing to develop their message and to analyze the significant moments in their lives for larger lessons and ideas (Memoirs).

Social Studies & Science

  • In Social Studies we have been working on our class agreements, creating our hopes and dreams, sharing and learning so much about each other! 
  • In Science we are learning about the Earth’s layers, convection currents and plate boundaries!

Next Up in Social Studies: Acquiring knowledge and understanding of world history and geography with a focus on the Fertile Crescent.

Math

We are building our community of mathematicians by sharing our thinking around number sense routines!

We are also learning about:

  • Even and odd numbers
  • Prime and composite numbers
  • Equivalent fractions and Decimals
  • Ordering Fractions/Mixed fractions/Decimals

Next Up: Creating and solving single-step and multi-step practical problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers.

Advanced Math

We are building our community of mathematicians by creating class rules and sharing our thinking about number sense routines.  We have been learning about:

  • Reading and writing ratios
  • Creating equivalent ratios
  • Using ratios in real world situations

Next Up: Developing an understanding of and fluency with multiplication and division fractions, decimals, and integers.
