STEAM Lab at Timber Lane ES
Timber Lane ES has a STEAM Lab! Our STEAM teacher, Mrs. Louise Nelson, has been collaborating with grade levels to provide inquiry-based hands-on learning opportunities for our student. Our students have been so excited to work on their Project Based Learning (PBL) artifacts in our new lab. Students at TLES have the opportunity to engage in STEAM learning through Project Based Learning (PBL) and the Engineering Design Process.
In FCPS, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts Integration, and Math) is a student-centered, project-based interdisciplinary instructional model that integrates STEAM content areas. STEAM is based on student-driven inquiry and problem solving to facilitate innovation through 21st-century skills; collaboration, communication, creativity, goal directed & resilient individuals, global & ethical citizens, and critical thinking.
Fifth grade students at Timber Lane ES demonstrate their understanding of Force, Motion, and Energy and The Engineering Design Process to design a mechanical device to move something from one place to another for their PBL. The photos capture the students working with their teams in the STEAM lab to create and improve their devices.
The 3rd grade students wrap up their ladybug science unit by working in teams to design a ladybug habitat to showcase their learning.
