Language Arts
What We Learned This Past Month
We started Language Arts this year by learning how to choose just right books and finding a good spot to read. Students are practicing increasing their reading stamina and talking about what they are reading.
For Word Study, we took a beginning of the year assessment. All students will be flexibly grouped into a word study group that best fits their needs.
What We Will Be Learning Next Month
We will be starting with a non-fiction unit. The students will be reading and writing about nonfiction topics of their choice and learning how to read nonfiction texts.
Math
What We Learned This Past Month
This month we have been working on graphing and data. The students have learned the parts of the graphs and how to translate tables into graphs. Our students have also learned the routines of math workshops and how to play math games co-operatively.
What We Will Be Learning Next Month
Next month, we will start working on place value and adding and subtracting large numbers. We will also be comparing and ordering large numbers. The students will continue to play math games and practice with graphing.
Science
What We Learned This Past Month
We are starting the year with Social Studies! We will start science content in October!

We will start our Ecosystems unit in October!
Social Studies
What We Learned This Past Month
We started our unit on Virginia Geography. We will study the rivers and water features of Virginia and then study the 5 Regions of Virginia. We will study each Region and learn details about each Region that make it unique.
What We Will Be Learning Next Month
Next month, we will be learning about the Native People of Virginia. We will learn about their daily lives and the contributions they made to Virginia
